3D tool expertise now available online worldwide

The "Internet-of-Tools" is the new global platform for digital cutting tools

For production companies, initial use of Industrie 4.0 coincides with the digitalization of their tool data. With its Internet-of-Tools, TDM Systems wants to create a new global platform for digital tools. The first application available on this platform is the Tool Designer, which generates digital 3D graphics of rotationally symmetric cutting tools. "Just register and get started," suggests Christian Kübel to NC programmers and tool managers. The responsible project manager expands on this: "The Internet-of-Tools provides you with significant support in the initial steps toward Industrie 4.0 by allowing you digitalize your tool inventory without complicated installation and the need to invest in the IT landscape. The only requirement: an Internet connection."

Christian Kübel

Responsible project manager for the Internet-of-Tools

3D-graphics directly usable for NC-Programming

The advantages of this online application as a software-as-a-service (SaaS) are plain to see: The Tool Designer generates the required 3D tool assembly graphics quickly and easily via an online application and exports them in a step data package (3D graphic in step format, parameters in XML format). It is now available for NC programming and simulation. A video tutorial on www.internet-of-tools.com illustrates how to get started in the world of digital tools.

Now available milling, drilling and boring

The expertise of TDM Systems, with years of experience in managing and digitalizing tool data, is a key component of the Internet-of-Tools. "We have designed the Tool Designer with all the needs of NC programmers in mind. These programmers require the most realistic 3D tool assembly graphics and corresponding parameters to create NC programs with minimal hassle," explains Christian Kübel. This is also the recipe of success for the application: NC-capable 3D tools can be created with predefined adapters, geometric items, contours and radii. But the Internet-of-Tools is more than an online generator for 3D tools. The long-term plan is to "expand the platform to create a global home for digital tools" where users will find a wide variety of cloud applications that support them in Tool Data Management. This means that the Tool Designer for milling, drilling and boring tools is just the start. More tool types will be available in a few months. An export to conventional CAM formats and the option to add specially available step items to the 3D tool assemblies will follow.

Tool Designer available as freemium version

The basic function of the Tool Designer will be available to users as a complimentary "freemium". During the continuous expansion of tool types and functionalities, users will be offered various premium packages at a fee. "We have developed a simple price model that offers a choice of monthly or yearly use and grants users complete flexibility," says Christian Kübel.
