Intense training for future professionals
Eduard Guwa, trainee IT specialist for application development, started his apprenticeship at TDM Systems two years ago. He chose this path having been fascinated by computer science from a young age. He finally turned a long-held dream into reality in 2023 when he began his apprenticeship at TDM Systems. His colleague Debora Nonnenmacher is also in the second year of her training to become an administrator for office management. They both speak highly of the atmosphere and the opportunities available to them. “At TDM Systems, there’s a real sense of family. When you need advice, there’s always someone willing to help,” says Eduard, describing the atmosphere at the company.
Great atmosphere within the company
This makes them two of five apprentices currently being trained at TDM Systems in the fields of IT for application development and administrator for office management. Their journey into the company began with a video interview – together with the trainers Fabio Bakirtas and Alexander Binder, as well as Julia Traschütz, Head of Training and Global HR Business Partner at TDM Systems. Both of them felt right at home from the very beginning. "You could tell right away that TDM Systems considers teamwork a top priority. The interviewers' questions complemented each other well and the conversation was very pleasant and relaxed, we laughed a lot," Eduard recalls. The successful initial interview was followed by an assessment day on site. Debora remembers: “I felt really positive afterwards. The atmosphere and the insights into the departments were exciting and very inviting.”
Joint trainee project
There’s also a strong team spirit among the trainees. “We’re working together on a trainee project that really challenges us – but it also strengthens our bond,” says Debora. The goal of the joint project is to manage the company's warehouse using our own software. By working together, the apprentices also gain insights into their colleagues’ areas of training. Debora adds: “The project gave me a better understanding of how our software is used in practice. Only then did I really understand certain connections.”
Diverse responsibilities
Eduard really values the chance to speak with other trainees and exchange ideas, especially in his role as a representative of the works council. He also sees this as an important addition to complement the central focus of his training: specialist work in the fields of data engineering, service and, of course, software development. “As an application developer, it's all about understanding the process of software development as a whole – how is it developed and what’s behind it.” These topics are explored in depth and with a practical focus during the in-house programming lessons together with the TDM experts. He is also enthusiastic about contact with customers in the Global Service Team: “It's exciting to see how customers work with our software – and then to work together to resolve problems.”
Getting to know different departments
To ensure that the training is as practical and varied as possible, both trainees rotate through different departments of the company. In the commercial sector, this includes the internal sales, marketing, order processing, purchasing and HR. IT specialists gain know-how in software development, field service, data engineering, service desk, QA and IT. Training new specialists is and always has been a matter close to TDM Systems’ heart. "We want to provide our trainees with high-quality education. For those areas that we cannot fully cover ourselves as a medium-sized company, we offer training in cooperation with Walter Tools in Tübingen,” explains Julia Traschütz, Site Management & Global HR Business Partner TFS and also responsible for training at TDM Systems.
Future at TDM Systems
Debora can easily picture herself staying on at TDM Systems once her training is complete. “I feel really comfortable and I am excited for the departments I’m yet to discover,” she explains. Eduard feels the same way: “I would really like to stay on here. At TDM Systems, we have the opportunity to develop further at any time and there are always exciting projects.” So, it's no surprise that both trainees are keen to encourage others to take up an apprenticeship at TDM Systems in Tübingen as well. “All you need is curiosity and an open mind and then simply let it come to you. Here, you can expect really interesting tasks and great people,” says Eduard. Debora adds: “And there’s no need to be afraid of not knowing something. You learn everything here and keep developing every day.”
