New data services

We love data: Our data team creates your tool data – real data, 3D twins, great quality!

Handling tool data is anything but trivial. We are therefore the only company on the market to offer special services for tool manufacturers and users.  Daniel Mutter, Product Manager for Data Solutions and Engin Özkan, Manager of Tool Data Services show you what these services look like and why they are a great help.

Why has TDM Systems created a separate department for tool data preparation?

Engin: Production planning requires tool data. And even if we have developed software tools that can be used to bring exactly this tool data into the TDM database, it’s not a no-brainer. Companies sometimes require support with this.

Daniel: Exactly. A digital tool management solution without data is just like an empty carafe. You cannot do anything with it. It can only exploit its full potential if it is "fed" with truly qualified tool data. With solutions like the TDM Data and Graphic Generator, the TDM WebCatalog and the import assistant, users can do this much more quickly and with more automation than if they had to manually import all of the data into the database. However, as Engin has already explained, sometimes that’s not enough support. So, if someone does not want to import their tool data themselves, they can now outsource this task to us.

We generate 100% application-based master data for our customers. The users can therefore benefit from the full scope of TDM immediately.

Engin Özkan
Manager Tool Data Services, TDM Systems

Why is TDM Systems only offering this new service now?

Daniel: Time is money. It has always been that way. But we have observed that more and more customers now want to work, or have to work, with our solutions really quickly. However, it takes time to fill the database – even with our software tools. In contrast, we have the experience and the manpower to import the data extremely quickly. We have therefore developed the service to support companies who want to start with the digital management of their tool data much sooner.

Engin: But not only that. Since we know our way around tool data, we also do not make any mistakes when classifying the tools, for example. Companies can therefore produce more efficiently since the tools are used optimally thanks to the data quality.

Daniel: Essentially, the employees in our Service department act as top chefs – regardless of which ingredients are at their disposal, the end result is always superb. Even if, in extreme cases, only hand drawings of tools are available, our experts have the expertise to generate and process the data from every possible source, which can be processed by all downstream systems.

Engin: The image of top chef is a beautiful one. We really see in advance what the end result should be. Since we look at the bigger picture more than most companies' in-house data managers, we therefore generate 100% application-based master data for our customers. The users can therefore benefit from the full scope of TDM immediately.

Data has become an extremely important decision-making criterion in the world of tools. Data is therefore clearly a driving force for the business.

Daniel Mutter
Product Manager Data Solutions, TDM Systems

For a few years now, you have been supporting tool manufacturers when processing their data. What is special about this?

Daniel: Tool manufacturers who do not provide high-quality data for their tools are no longer very attractive for many machining companies. We repeatedly hear this from TDM customers. Data has become an extremely important decision-making criterion here. Data is therefore clearly a driving force for the business.

Engin: Exactly. Those who want to remain profitable in the future must also supply digital tool data. But not every manufacturer has the time to create this data accordingly. And this is where we come into play. However, we not only take on the job of fully processing and digitalizing the tool information for tool manufacturers. We also check whether the tool data that you generate complies with the specifications for inclusion in our TDM WebCatalog.

What are the TDM experts doing here that is different to the tool manufacturers?

Daniel: Larger tool manufacturers usually offer their customers separate digital catalogs. They do not explicitly look at whether their tool data is designed for TDM applications. And they often find it difficult to slim down the scope of data.

Engin: That can be problematic. Because excess information can quickly make the data record too "heavy" and, for example, slow down the simulation.

Daniel: By taking on the data processing for the tool manufacturers and/or checking the data accordingly, we therefore ensure that TDM users work with data that is compatible with TDM applications and connected systems such as the CAM systems. That is a huge advantage for the users and, in the end, also for the tool manufacturers – since satisfied customers are returning customers.

Who can interested parties contact when they want to know more aboutthe data service from TDM Systems.

Daniel: Tool manufacturers can contact me: daniel.mutter@tdmsystems.com. And companies that want to import their tool data from us should contact the sales department at TDM Systems.
